I’ve noticed lots of people are still having problems viewing certain Flash files in some sites using Firefox 3. I was having some problems of my own when checking out pages like Xbox.com. I was so tired of seeing Please download Flash. I was thinking an add-on might have been the cause of the Adobe Flash plug-in problem, but sites like Newgrounds.com and most other Flash-enabled sites were working just fine. I had to use other browsers like Opera, Safari and IE8 to see the Flash-based sites as cool as they should be. I had tried a beta version of Flash 10, but those sites I visited did not recognize it. So, I decided to find a way to solve this problem.
I was still not able to see Xbox.com on Firefox. I had installed a new add-on. I restarted the program. Seconds later, I got a message stating the software has crashed. Ay caramba! Because I did not get it to open in normal mode, I thought this was a great opportunity to uninstall Flash anyway. I did just that with the ActiveX and plug-in versions. I tried Flash 10 beta. It worked with the demonstration files it was supposed to work on, but had problems with Yahoo! Mail. I used PE Explorer for the Flash plug-in file to be recognized by Firefox as version 9.0.124.0; nothing worked. I then decided to go back to the current, stable version.
After uninstalling Flash 10, I wanted to face the issue once and for all. Good thing there is a Safe Mode version in Firefox 3. So, I tested many of the add-ons I had by exiting and re-starting the browser. I found out two add-ons were causing Firefox 3 to crash: AVG Safe Search and HTML Validator. HTML Validator! Maybe this add-on has some conflict with another one. AVG Safe Search and McAffee Site Advisor were working together previously and there have never been any conflicts. I re-opened FF3. Just case, I had no web sites open during this process.
I decided then it was time to bring back Flash 9. I closed FF3 and re-installed the software again. Then, I copied the Flash plug-in and its related files from the C:/Windows/System32/Macromed/Flash folder to the FF3 plug-in one. After re-starting FF3 and testing the add-ons to make sure nothing was going to make this software crash again, the moment I was waiting for had finally arrived. I visited Xbox.com. I was thinking “Will it work?” Finally, it did work… in Normal mode. Somehow one small, familiar Final Fantasy song came to my mind at that moment: when a battle ends and your characters are victorious.
So, I don’t know yet what was it that made it work. Could it have been the copy of those plug-in files to its corresponding Firefox folder? Whatever happened, well, I don’t have to worry about it anymore. Has something like this happened to you? The question now is: Will be ever see Flash 9 or 10 on Nintendo’s Wii?
