For those of you who remember the arcade days of the 1980s, the Nintendo Entertainment System must come to mind. The launch of the console gamers remember as the 8-bit NES, saved the entire video game industry, beating all the odds after the famous video game crash of 1983 in North America [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/North_American_video_game_crash_of_1983]. However, the NES was not born as the NES.
Today marks the 31st anniversary of the release of the Family Computer, known as the Famicom for short. The original Famicom features a whole different look from the one console that gamers outside Japan should remember.
As gamers, let’s celebrate “Famikon no ji,” the “Day of the Famicom,” by playing some classic game you should have on your Wii U, like Super Mario Bros., the Legend of Zelda, ExciteBike (on the 3DS), or any other game that brought you lots of fun back then.
Happy Anniversary, Famicom!
