Last night, a Wii U system update was made available for console owners to enable support for the upcoming Amiibo figures that will work with Nintendo titles such as Mario Kart 8 and Super Smash Bros. for the Wii U, among others.
Nintendo’s support page explains the content of the newest update, ver. 5.3.0 U:
Changes to System Settings:
- amiibo Settings has been added to System Settings. amiibo Settings allows users to register an amiibo owner and nickname, delete data written to an amiibo by supported software, or reset an amiibo
Improvements to system stability and usability:
- Further improvements to overall system stability and other minor adjustments have been made to enhance the user experience
The game update for Mario Kart 8 will arrive later this week and for Hyrule Warriors later this month.
In addition, Super Smash Bros for Wii U, perhaps the most-awaited title from Nintendo, will be in stores on the 21st, and recently announced more Amiibo characters to be released early next year in Japan. Among the new characters to be available in January: Bowser, Ike, King Dedede, Lucario, Rosalina, Sheik, Toon Link, Meta Knight. In February, fans of the franchise will be able to add Mega Man, Sonic and Shulk to their Amiibo collection.
