It was an unexpected surprise. Following the purchase of Mojang by Microsoft a few months ago, there is already a new expansion of the franchise, this time with cooperation from the developer of The Walking Dead and Game of Thrones games.
Via an interactive story titled Info Quest 2, Mojang announced Minecraft: Story Mode, an episodic series that will be released sometime in 2015. The narrative-driven game created by Telltales Games in collaboration with Mojang will be a “separate stand-alone product” to be released in Xbox and PlayStation consoles, PC, Mac, iOS and Android devices.
“We’re not intending on creating an “official” story for Steve, or explaining the world of Minecraft in detail. It will be a cool game,” says the Mojang post.
According to Telltales, “Telltale’s game series will mix new characters with familiar themes, in an entirely original Minecraft experience, inspired by the Minecraft community and the game that continues to inspire a generation.”
Also, just don’t get excited about the Minecraft sequel. Minecraft 2 is just a joke.
