In the many reincarnations of Catwoman since issue #1 of Batman some 75 years ago, we’ve seen her as the Dark Knight’s most attractive and seductive enemy. Still, 75 years weren’t enough to know all there is about the feline character.
In a blog post by DC comic book writer Genevieve Valentine, she reveals the original Catwoman, aka Selina Kyle, is bisexual. Valentine describes a scene showing Selina Kyle kissing Eiko Hasigawa.
In issue #39 of Catwoman, Selina Kyle belongs to the Calabrese crime family, while Eiko becomes the new Catwoman.
Valentine adds: “She’s flirted around it – often quite literally – for years now; for me, this wasn’t a revelation so much as a confirmation.”
“Is this particular kiss a surprise? It’s definitely surprising; this is the very last thing you’re supposed to be getting into on the brink of war, and they both know it.”
About Catwoman’s relationship with Batman, Valentine mentioned on her post: “Please be assured that Selina’s longstanding connection to Batman has not been forgotten; that is not how bisexuality (or humanity) works.”
This isn’t the first time fans have seen a DC female character with a different sexual preference. In 2006, Batwoman returned to comic books as a lesbian.
