Via its Windows Blog, Microsoft announced early today Windows 10 is coming on July 29. Users of Windows 7 and 8.x operating systems are starting to receive a message today on their PCs to reserve their free upgrade.
For Microsoft, the idea is to use Windows 10 as a unifying platform for all Windows PCs, smartphones, tablets and Xbox One. The upcoming free upgrade will only be available for one year. After the free 1-year period is over, it will cost users to upgrade to Windows 10.
Among the features people expect to see on Windows 10: Microsoft Edge (Microsoft’s newest web browser, the successor of Internet Explorer), Cortana (a personal digital assistant that will also be available on iOS and Android), Xbox Live & built-in Xbox app (to record gameplay and communicate with friends), new essential apps (Photos, Videos, Mail, Music, Maps, Calendar, People), Windows Continuum, Windows Hello and Windows Store.
