Though Sega tried to bring its MMORPG game to Europe and North America in early 2013 but failed (even after showing an English-language preview of it), gamers outside of Japan will be able to see what the company’s MMO franchise is all about as Sentai Filmworks acquires licensing rights for Phantasy Star Online 2: The Animation.
According to Sentai Filmworks, the newest anime will make its TV debut in January 2016 in Japan, with a North America release sometime in the new year. Phantasy Star Online 2: The Animation will also be seen via “select digital outlets,” followed by a home video release.
The post says the new series follows the adventures of Itsuki Tachibana, “a player of Phantasy Star Online 2, and the challenges he faces both in and outside of the game.”
Among the ones in charge of the anime series: Keiichiro Kawaguchi (director), Mitsutaka Hirota (scriptwriter and series composer), Minoko Takasu (character design), Telecom Animation Film (anime production).
[Q]: With the release of the anime sometime in 2016, will Sega take advantage of this opportunity to finally bring the game to North America and Europe? Let’s hope Sega brings the game at the right time. Sega has not updated the official English-language FB page of Phantasy Star Online 2 since September 2012.
