In an interview with Japanese newspaper Asahi Shinbun, Nintendo president Tatsumi Kimishima said the company is entering the movie business. Thanks to translations by Dr. Serkan Toto (gaming consultant) and gamer @FarmboyInJapan, the main points of the article were translated to English.

This time, Nintendo would like to be in charge of the work that goes into filming. Kimishima said Nintendo is looking for a way in which “we can do as much as we can ourselves.”

He also said he would like to see the first Nintendo-produced movie “within the next 2-3 years.”

Kimishima also said the 1993 Super Mario Bros film was the reason why the company is not planning on live-action films, and he instead prefers CGI and anime films.

The Asahi article also mentions Nintendo is becoming a partner with various productions companies

Some of the money for films will come from the sale of the MLB team Seattle Mariners
