During the early hours today, Universal and Nintendo announced Super Nintendo World is coming to Universal Studios Japan, just in time for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. Along with the announcement, both companies released a detailed concept image of the first Nintendo attraction based on the world of Mario’s Mushroom Kingdom.
Universal Studios Japan will become the first place to introduce fans to the world of Nintendo in real life. The cost for the development of Super Nintendo World is expected to surpass 50 billion yen (about US$443 million).
The upcoming attraction, according to the press release, “will be comprised of expansive and multilevel environments filled with unprecedented, state-of-the-art rides, interactive areas, shops and restaurants, all featuring Nintendo’s most popular characters and games.” It will be built on the park’s current parking area and at reserved area for future attractions.
The conceptual rendering of Super Nintendo World features characteristics from the world of Super Mario, though the press releases says the attraction “will also feature a variety of other globally popular Nintendo characters.”
