After announcing on its Japanese web site that production of the Wii U has ended in Japan, the company confirmed the end of global production for the Wii U.

As the launch of the Nintendo Switch is just a few weeks away, the Wii U is coming to an end after the company sold 13.56 million consoles worldwide as of December 31, 2016. The amount of Wii U consoles was not even close to the amount of Wii consoles sold globally of 101+ million.
