This morning, Nintendo announced the launch of the SNES Classic Edition mini console, coming to stores on September 29 for US$79. After the sought-after and discontinued NES Classic, Nintendo will bring back some of the best games of the 16-bit generation such as Super Mario World and The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past.

For the release of the SNES Classic, the mini console will come with an HDMI cable, two wired SNES Classic controllers, and a USB charging cable with an AC adapter. With the pair of controllers included, it will be easy for fans to enjoy games such as Contra III and Street Fighter II: Turbo Hyper Fighting.

What most people were not expecting was the arrival of Star Fox 2, a title that was fully completed but never released due to the already-planned arrival of the Nintendo 64.

Here’s the list of all the 21 games included in the SNES Classic:

  • Contra III: The Alien Wars
  • Donkey Kong Country
  • EarthBound
  • Final Fantasy III
  • F-ZERO
  • Kirby Super Star

“While many people from around the world consider the Super NES to be one of the greatest video game systems ever made, many of our younger fans never had a chance to play it,” stated Doug Bowser, Nintendo of America’s Senior Vice President of Sales and Marketing. “With the Super NES Classic Edition, new fans will be introduced to some of the best Nintendo games of all time, while longtime fans can relive some of their favorite retro classics with family and friends.”
