Though he still is a game analyst for the NFL Network, football fans will no longer listen to his excellent play-by-play comments on Sunday or Monday nights, or in any other game. With great determination in the sport that he has loved since his high school days, he went on to become a college football player at California Polytechnic State University. With his success in college sports, his move to the NFL as a professional player was next on his agenda. One of the major obstacle in his football life came when he had a knee injury and was forced to retire from playing in the big league. This incident, however, did not end his football career. He moved on to coaching at the college level for 6+ years where he learned the skills to succeed. Throughtout his college and professional career at the AFL and the NFL, he won one Super Bowl in 1977 against the Minnesota Vikings. He then became a sports commentator for the four major US TV network (CBS, NBC, ABC, Fox) since the late 70s. Besides his sports broadcasting career, young people today will remember him because of the videogame that has had his name on it since the late 80s: Madden NFL.
