When Geoff Keighley at Spike TV asked Mattrick in an interview on the subject of a console for people with no Internet access, the Xbox exec responded by saying:
“Fortunately we have a product for people who aren’t able to get some form of connectivity,” Mattrick said. “It’s called Xbox 360.”
“So stick with 360, that’s your message…?” responded Keighley.
“Well, if you have zero access to the Internet, that [360] is an offline device,” stated Mattrick.
The Xbox One is a powerful console, but not offering offline gameplay and other features sends a message to fans that while it is more than possible to make the device work to play offline, this is a new, radical approach the company brings to its upcoming console.
If the Xbox One is going to be sold in many countries, perhaps it should take into consideration the repercussions of its acts. Not everyone has a net connection via cable or fiber optic. People also live in rural areas where the internet speed is not so great. Plus, if the company doesn’t get to listen to its fans, perhaps it could suffer the wrath Sony faced with its PlayStation Network. If the PS3, Xbox 360 and PS4 are/will be online AND offline devices, why can’t the Xbox One be the same?
