After a good start with the release of Modern Warfare 3 in November 2011, the Call of Duty subscription service will be closing down on February 28, 2014, says Activision.
The $50 yearly service offered gamers downloadable content at a discount, special competitions with prizes, social features, Facebook integration and clan management. However, the interest in the service started to go down later, and Activision decided not to support Elite with Black Ops II in 2012. Many features of Elite will be included in upcoming versions of the gaming franchise; the company has no plans to bring Elite again.
Starting on February 28, the Elite app will no longer work on consoles and mobile devices.
