Perhaps the most well-known martial artists in history, Bruce Lee is the latest and mysterious character to be announced by EA for its upcoming UFC game. Known as The Father of Mixed Martial Arts, Bruce Lee not only made martial arts known outside of Asia, but also changed the way Asians were seen in American movies.
In EA Sports UFC, Bruce Lee will be available in two ways: by pre-ordering the game starting today to have access to the famous fighter and actor on the first day of release, or by completing the game’s career mode in Pro difficulty or higher. Players will be able to select Bruce Lee to fight in the Flyweight, Bantamweight, Featherweight and Lightweight divisions.
“I am so excited about this opportunity to bring my father back to videogames!” said Shannon Lee, the daughter of Bruce Lee who is also the CEO of Bruce Lee, LLC and Chairperson of the Bruce Lee Foundation. “I’m thrilled that fans can now interact with him in a new way. The EA SPORTS UFC development team has been incredible to work with, and they’ve done a great job capturing the look and feel of my father. I think people will love getting a chance to fulfill a fight fantasy by playing Bruce Lee in the new UFC game.”
“There’s no debate, Bruce Lee is the father of mixed martial arts,” said Dana White, President of UFC. “He believed not one style of fighting was the best and that you had to have a little piece of everything to be a complete fighter. He was proven right when the first UFC event took place in 1993.”
It’s great to see a martial arts legend “return again” (李振藩) to videogames. 李振藩 (Lee Jun-fan), Bruce Lee’s Cantonese name, means “return again.”
EA made available the Bruce Lee reveal trailer seen here. EA Sports UFC will be launched on June 17.
