After Blizzard filed a lawsuit against Sina Games for allegedly ripping off Blizzard’s popular game Warcraft, Sina Games’ Glorious Saga game was taken offline yesterday.
With a post on the game’s Facebook page, Sina Games informed its followers that the game will stop working “due to some irresistible reasons.” “The servers will be closed. Players can’t login any longer.” There was no detailed info explaining specifically why the game’s servers have gone offline, nor any reference to the lawsuit.
According to the document, “Blizzard seeks to put a stop to, and obtain redress for, the massive infringement of Blizzard’s unique and valuable intellectual property in Defendants mobile and web-based game titled “Glorious Saga.”
In another paragraph, Blizzard says Sina Games “did not just copy a few discrete elements from Blizzard’s Warcraft games; they created a game whose content is almost entirely copied from the Warcraft games and related products.”
Blizzard also adds that every character, monster, creature, animal and vehicle in Glorious Saga is a copy from the franchise in question. When it comes to other details, Blizzard mentioned audio and sound effects as well as the game’s box art were mainly reproduced also for Sina Games’ gains. Screenshots of the similarities of the characters are also included in the document.
Likewise, the document mentions comments made by fans on social media expressing their feelings about the alleged ripoff.
Blizzard is asking for “$150,000 per infringed work,” in addition to attorneys’ fees and other fees.
Even though the game is available on Google Play as Glorious World, the screenshots show the name of the game as Glorious Saga.
