Valve has made available today the Steam Remote Play Together feature for Steam beta users, to let them play local multiplayer games together, online.
According to the post, “Now in Beta! With Remote Play Together, you can now invite Steam Friends to join your local co-op, local multiplayer, and shared/split screen games online. Up to four players, can instantly join in the fun.”
The newest feature was revealed to developers two weeks ago via the Steamworks website.
According to Valve, “thousands of supported titles” already support this feature. Take a look at the list of local multiplayer games here: https://store.steampowered.com/search/?category2=44.
Perhaps the most interesting part of this feature: “Only the host needs to own and install the game, while additional players connect through Steam Remote Play streaming technology.”
Once connected, your friends’ controllers will work “as if they’re plugged directly into your computer, and all your voice chat and game volume options are available in one place.” The host will also be able to share or limit access to mouse and keyboard if he/she wants to.
With this new feature, Steam now has one more advantage against the competition.
