According to The Hollywood Reporter, Netflix has picked up the rights for a Dragon’s Lair film, based on a video game franchise.
The franchise created by Rick Dyer and Don Bluth first made its debut in the arcades in 1983 as Dragon’s Lair. As a Laserdisc adventure game, the title was ahead of its time in terms of graphics.
This time, THR says Ryan Reynolds is in talk for the staring role of Dirk the Daring in the live-action feature adaptation.
The character’s goal is to save Princess Daphne, the daughter of King Aethelred, from the evil dragon Singe in the first game and from the evil wizard Mordroc in the sequel.
Among the producers included in the negotiations are: Roy Lee (Vertigo Entertainment), Trevor Engelson (Underground Films), actor Ryan Reynolds (Maximum Effort), Don Bluth, Gary Goldman and Jon Pomeroy.
Dan and Kevin Hageman have been chosen as the script writers. They worked together on the script for The Lego Movie and are currently executive producers for the Star Trek animated series.
Meanwhile, Ryan Reynolds’s upcoming movie, Free Guy, may be put on hold due to coronavirus concerns. Free Guy is supposed to make its debut in July.
