Gamers in over a dozen countries can now enjoy Google Stadia with access free of charge starting today, according to Phil Harrinson, VP and GM at Google Stadia.
“We’re facing some of the most challenging times in recent memory. Keeping social distance is vital, but staying home for long periods can be difficult and feel isolating. Video games can be a valuable way to socialize with friends and family when you’re stuck at home, so we’re giving gamers in 14 countries free access to Stadia Pro for two months. This is starting today and rolling out over the next 48 hours,” says Harrison.
People who sign up starting today will get to try Stadia Pro for two months with nine available games to play immediately, including GRID, and Destiny 2: The Collection.
Also, players can start purchasing games at the digital store which they’ll be able to play even after cancelling the Pro subscription. Users who want to keep using Stadia Pro can subscribe for $9.99 a month, and have the option to cancel their subscription anytime. Current Pro subscribers won’t have to pay for the next couple of months.
With the current crisis, Google is currently working on an upcoming feature to lower the resolution from 4K to 1080p “to reduce load on the Internet further.”
Google here is basically following the steps of Netflix and Sony Interactive Entertainment to keep the web available without slowdowns.
Though the post does not mention the free Base tier, a Google representative told TechCrunch that gamers can change to Base after the end of the free two months of Stadia Pro.
