Sony Interactive Entertainment President and CEO Jim Ryan announced today the company will offer fans Naughty Dog’s Uncharted: The Nathan Drake Collection and thatgamecompany’s Journey.
This is part of Sony’s Play at Home Initiative with free games to keep players home during the coronavirus outbreak. PlayStation fans can start adding both games to their digital collection from April 15 at 8pm PDT through May 5 at 8pm PDT. Meanwhile, gamers in China and Germany will get Knack 2 and Journey. Because of the internet slowdown, it may take longer than usual to download the titles. “In alignment with SIE’s goal in preserving Internet access in the US and Europe, game downloads may take a little longer, but we appreciate the understanding from our community as we take these measures in an effort to preserve access for everyone,” wrote Ryan.
Also, SIE wants to help out the smaller independent game studios going through financial hardships. “SIE has developed a fund to support them during this time. We have earmarked $10 million to support our independent development partners. More information about the fund, including participation criteria, will be made available soon.”
Video games offer lots of entertainment to people of all ages. It’s great to see Sony care about the fans and the smaller game developers. “During these days of physical distancing, fans have turned to gaming for moments of respite and enjoyment. At Sony Interactive Entertainment, we are privileged to bring this much-needed entertainment. We know this is just one small step and we are thankful to be able to offer this support to our players, our communities, and our partners.”
