During IGN’s Summer of Gaming 2020, a long-forgotten Sega hero finally returns in Alex Kidd in Miracle World DX. This updated version of the 1986 Sega Master System game brings the title character with new levels, new modes, alternate boss fights, retro mode, new boss rush mod, plus new ands remastered music.
Perhaps one of the most interesting feature to see is the Retro Mode, which can bring back the classic graphics to our HDTV screens.
Back in the 1980s, fans considered Alex Kidd as Sega’s mascot before the company released Sonic the Hedgehog in the early 1991.
There have been six games in the franchise before the announcement of this updated version:
- Alex Kidd in Miracle World – 1986, Sega Master System
- Alex Kidd: The Lost Stars – 1986 Arcade, 1988 Sega Master System
- Alex Kidd BMX Trial – 1987, Sega Master System
- Alex Kidd: High-Tech World – 1987, Sega Master System
- Alex Kidd in the Enchanted Castle – 1989, Sega Genesis
- Alex Kidd in Shinobi World – 1990, Sega Master System
According to a page on Steam, the PC version will be released in the first quarter of 2021. The remake is being developed by Merge Games and Jankenteam. By the way, Sega fans have had one game recently developed by Merge Games: Streets of Rage 4.
The game’s also coming to PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch and Xbox One.
After 30 years, Alex Kidd returns! A legend reborn.
