Veteran game developer and publisher SNK Playmore is hard at work with Tencent-owned TiMi Studios in an upcoming Metal Slug mobile game.
Currently known as Metal Slug Code: J, the game is being developed by TiMi Studios and will be published by both Tencent and SNK Playmore.
The first trailer of the mobile game shows a more 3D look for the classic franchise first seen on the Neo-Geo arcades and gaming console.
“Metal Slug has such an amazing history of great action and gameplay so we’re proud to bring this to mobile gamers around the world,” said SNK Game Producer Yasuyuki Oda. “We’re happy to work closely with such a strong developer as TiMi Studios on this latest Metal Slug title.”
TiMi Studios announced the news during the Tencent Games Annual Conference this past Friday.
“Metal Slug is one of the great arcade franchises and a perfect fit for mobile play,” said Winco Qin, general manager of TiMi J1 studio. “Our team has been focused on a faithful recreation of the game’s classic shoot’em-up style, easily accessible for players that’s fun for new and existing fans of the genre.”
This is one more partnership for TiMi Studios, a subsidiary of Tencent Games, as it is working with Nintendo on a new Pokémon game. The studio has worked on Call of Duty: Mobile, Arena of Valor, Honor of Kings, Speed Drifters, and other titles.
SNK Playmore released the Metal Slug Code: J trailer yesterday.
