After six years in development and almost five months since launch, Amazon’s third-person-shooter Crucible will be shut down on November 10, 2020.
According to the post titled Final Crucible Developer Update, the Crucible team explains their decision to pull the plug on the game.
After the Crucible team decided to move back the game into closed beta in July after the game’s official launch in May, the team was able to complete all its plans, except for custom games which will be available “in the coming days.”
However, it seems their work wasn’t enough to satisfy fans. The evaluation, consisting of fan feedback and collected game data, made the dev team to change course.
“That evaluation led us to a difficult decision: we’ll be discontinuing development on Crucible. We very much appreciate the way that our fans have rallied around our efforts, and we’ve loved seeing your responses to the changes we’ve made over the last few months, but ultimately we didn’t see a healthy, sustainable future ahead of Crucible. We’ll be transitioning our team to focus on New World and other upcoming projects from Amazon Games.”
Fans who made purchases will be able to receive full refunds. Also, credit purchases will be disabled soon.
There will be a final playtest and community celebration in the game and at its Discord page. After both events, matchmaking will be disabled, though fans will be able to continue playing Crucible using the custom games feature.
“Thank you, as always, for being part of our community. This has been a labor of love, and we’re grateful for the time we got to spend on planet Crucible with you.”
When is Amazon shutting down Crucible?
Amazon’s Relentless Studios said the Crucible servers for custom games will work until noon PT on Monday, November 9, 2020.
