Because of the COVID-19 pandemic, the 2022 version of the Electronic Entertainment Expo, E3 2022, will be an online-event.
“Due to the ongoing health risks surrounding COVID-19 and its potential impact on the safety of exhibitors and attendees, E3 will not be held in person in 2022,” the Entertainment Software Association told GamesBeat. “We remain incredibly excited about the future of E3 and look forward to announcing more details soon.”
This comes after the recent COVID-19 variant omicron has again increased concerns in the US.
Last year, E3 2021 took place online-only for the very first time. In 2020, the event did not happen at all. E3 2022 will be the third time the event will not occur at the Los Angeles Convention Center. The ESA has not announced the dates for the E3 2022 online event.
While the ESA and other companies and organizations are making changes due to the impact of the omicron variant, the 2022 Game Developers Conference event is still scheduled for March.
