Toei Animation announced the launch of its direct-to-consumer sales strategy for the Latin American market.
Part of its plan is to let fans communicate and interact directly with Toei Animation on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter in Spanish. It’s the first time an anime studio wants to reach the Latin American market, says the company’s press release.
Via these social media accounts in Spanish, followers will be receiving info about the company and anime series as well as news straight from the company specifically for the region. Toei Animation’s US branch is now in charge of the Spanish-language social media channels.
“Anime is incredibly popular in Latin America and the region is home to one of the largest fan communities for Toei Animation content outside of Asia,” said Lisa Yamatoya, director of marketing and licensing at Toei Animation Inc. “With so much exciting that are being prepared at the Studio, including the new Dragon Ball Super and One Piece movies, is the perfect opportunity to connect and engage with Spanish-speaking fans and consumers throughout Latin America.”
This announcement comes two weeks after the company mentioned Netflix provides Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon Crystal subbed and dubbed versions in Spanish and Portuguese. In February, LoveJapan Entertainment announced the first official Saint Seiya: Knights of the Zodiac symphony will take place in Mexico on September 3. In Latin America, the anime is known as Saint Seiya: Los Caballeros del Zodíaco.
