Today, NetEase Games announced the launch of Jackalope Games, the first-ever first-party studio in the United States for NetEase’s online games division.
Based in Austin, TX, the new studio will develop PC and console games. In charge of Jackalope Games will be Jack Emmert, game designer of games such as City of Heroes and City of Villains. He worked previously as the Chief Creative Officer at Cryptic Studios and Chief Executive Officer at Daybreak Game Company Austin. In addition, he worked on the development of Marvel Universe Online and Champions (which Cryptic Studios purchased from Hero Games). Emmert also worked as the online producer on Star Trek Online.
“NetEase Games is the best possible place for me and my team to thrive,” Jack Emmert said. “We share the same passion– to create engaging online universes for gamers worldwide. NetEase Games is providing the support and resources needed to build a great studio and great games.”
Jackalope Games will work independently and will retain creative freedom in the development and publication of games. According to Jackalope Games, it believes that “collaboration and diversity are necessary ingredients for studio success” and embraces the virtual office.
