Nintendo announced today its acquisition of Japanese animation studio Dynamo Pictures to become a wholly owned subsidiary.
Dynamo Pictures has focused on producing visual content. It’s the visual production company responsible for the animated Pikmin short films.
In addition, the company has done CG for Ghost in the Shell SAC_2045 and Yuri on Ice, animation for Aya and the Witch, and motion capture for Persona 5 and Final Fantasy XIII-2.
Located in Tokyo, it was first founded as Studio Dynamo in 2004. Part of the company split off to become a separate company known as Dynamo Pictures, Inc. in 2011.
Once the acquisition (valued at 34.5 million yen) closes on October 3, the company will be renamed Nintendo Pictures Co., Ltd. It will focus on “development of visual content utilizing Nintendo IP.”
The press release also states the acquisition “will have only a minor effect on Nintendo’s results for this fiscal year.”
This announcement comes two and a half months after Nintendo said the Super Mario Bros. film has been delayed until April 2023.
