Almost ten months after its return to TV and online, G4 has laid off 20-25 staff members todays, three sources told Kotaku.
The unexpected G4 layoffs surprised staff members. Instead of filming today, work on the shows were cancelled for today for employees to speak with HR representatives. The shows will resume tomorrow, says the tweet.
The employees to be affected by the layoffs “would receive anywhere between 16 weeks and six months of severance based on their tenure with Comcast.”
G4’s finances have reportedly been in a decline for some time, according to three sources. Managers had been instructed to cut costs. Before leaving G4, former president Russell Arons discussed the troubles the business was facing and proposed unrealistic revenue goals for the year ahead. After Arons left, Comcast Spectator CEO Joe Marsh was mainly concerned with finding ways to reduce spending at G4.
