As seen on IGN, Microsoft will raise the price of new first-party games for Xbox Series X|S starting in 2023 from $59.99 to $69.99 USD.
“This price reflects the content, scale, and technical complexity of these titles,” a Microsoft spokesperson told IGN when referring to franchises or games such as Forza Motorsport, Starfield, and Redfall. “As with all games developed by our teams at Xbox, they will also be available with Game Pass the same day they launch.”
Microsoft is following the steps of companies such as Ubisoft, Sony, Take-Two Interactive, and others who announced the new price of $70 for new titles.
Back in 2020, Take-Two Interactive became the first publisher to raise the price of a big franchise, NBA2K21, for Xbox Series X and PlayStation 5.
Xbox CEO Phil Spencer had already stated in October that the company wouldn’t be able to retain its prices indefinitely.
The last time the US game industry experienced a price increase was during the generation of Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. Back then, the price of games went up from $49.99 to $59.99.
