Via Twitter and YouTube, Velan Studios announced its team-based dodgeball multiplayer game Knockout City will be shut down on June 6, 2023.
Via its blog post, Velan Studios Game Director Jeremy Ruso said Season 9 will be its last one. On June 6, 2023, all servers worldwide will be shut down, making the game unplayable. “This was an extremely difficult decision for us, but a necessary and important one for our studio.”
Once Season 9 starts on February 28, users won’t be able to make real-money transactions. That means fans won’t be able to purchase Holobux, the Deluxe Bundle, or either of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Bundles via any platform.
After Season 9 ends on May 23, the final 2-week farewell called Thanks for the KOs will begin. The servers will be shut down on June 6 at 12:00 p.m. UTC.
The game will live on via Windows PCs, however. Velan Studios will release a private server version of Knockout City.
The game made its debut in May 2021 for PC, Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and Nintendo Switch as an EA Original title. Velan Studios took over EA’s publishing duties in June 2022. On June 1, 2022, the game became a free-to-play title.
Though Velan Studios will shut down Knockout City, the developer is already at work “in various stages of development on a few other projects.”
