The English Premier League, the most watched and financially successful football league in the world, is about to sign a £488 million ($590 million USD) commercial contract with Electronic Arts. The planned rebranding of EA Sports FC, the series formerly known as EA FIFA, may make this the most significant commercial collaboration EA has ever had.
The 20 Premier League clubs were briefed on the arrangement, which is worth more than £80 million annually over six years, at a meeting at the end of last week, according to a report from Sky Sports. Additionally, it continues in certain ways the past agreements made by EA. As part of the agreement, EA will keep its position as the “primary partner” of the Premier League, retain all necessary game licenses, and display EA Sports FC logos all over its broadcasts and venues.
However, the monies involved have more than increased from the last agreement. There is no doubting that the Premier League’s rise over the past ten years has left competitors like La Liga way behind, despite the fact that this may seem like ridiculous money. A European Super League is being considered by many elite European clubs as a result of the effect, and some English teams were almost enticed to leave in 2021.
“We don’t comment on details of commercial relationships, or discussions with our partners. We’re proud to have a long-standing partnership with the Premier League and its clubs, and appreciate their support in our plans for EA SPORTS FC. We have nothing to announce today,” EA told Sky Sports.
