Twiiter has become more than just a simple internet tool for personal and entertainment purposes. It has become an important piece of communication even during tough times. People around the world, especially in Afghanistan and Iraq, have used the service to tell us their stories with short messages in real-time. It had previously caught the attention of celebrities such as Oprah, Shaq, Ashton Kutcher, and Larry King. But recently, two well-known companies seem to respect each other. They’ve sent messages to each other. While we may never to see MSNBC’s Keith Olbermann as a follower on Fox News’s Bill O’Reilly’s profile, at least you can now see Pepsi and Coke as friendly rivals.

The founder of AmnesiaBlog (@eunmac) started this experiment as he calls it by sending an initial Dear @pepsi and @cocacola, why not end the cola wars and follow each other? message. It wasn’t the only one both companies were going to receive. Next, users started to re-twitter the why not follow each other on Twitter and be friends 🙂 message to Pepsi and Coke’s Twitter accounts. A few hours later, Coke said hello to Pepsi on Twitter with the message: @eunmac Iain, I think that’s a fine idea. A gracious (but competitive) hello from Coca-Cola, @pepsi. ^AB. Some hours later, Pepsi replied with: Helloooo @CocaCola and @eunmac! Can rivals and tweeps coexist? We’re willing to find out. 🙂.

Is this the start of rival companies becoming friends in this new era of social networking? Microsoft and Linux just became friends a few days ago. This is not a public relations stunt. I’m really happy to see this going on. What a TwitterHug! Happy July 4th!

A continuación, usuarios comenzaron a re-twittear el mensaje why not follow each other on Twitter and be friends 🙂 (por qué no siguen en Twitter y se hacen amigos 🙂 ) a las cuentas Twitter de Pepsi y Coca-Cola. Unas pocas horas más tarde, Coca-Cola le saluda a Pepsi en Twitter con el mensaje: @eunmac Iain, I think that’s a fine idea. A gracious (but competitive) hello from Coca-Cola, @pepsi. ^ AB). Unas horas más tarde, Pepsi respondió con: Helloooo @CocaCola and @eunmac! Can rivals and tweeps coexist? We’re willing to find out. 🙂 (Holaaaa @Cocacola y @eunmac! Estamos dispuestos a averiguarlo).
