Activision vs Worlds Inc

[EN]: It has been a year and a half since Worlds Inc. filed a patent infringement lawsuit against Activision Blizzard, Inc. and its two subsidiaries in the U.S. District Court for the District of Massachusetts.

Now, it’s Worlds Inc and Worlds Online Inc.’s turn to be taken to court. Some hours ago, Activision Blizzard mentioned via a press release its subsidiary Activision Publishing has filed also a patent infringement lawsuit against Worlds.

According to the press release, Activision says Worlds has infringed on two patents:

  • U.S. Patent No. 6,014,145 – “Navigation with optimum viewpoints in three-dimensional workspace interactive displays having three-dimensional objects with collision barriers”
  • U.S. Patent No. 5,883,628 – “Climability: property for objects in 3-D virtual environments.”

The Worlds Player software is the product that Activision says it is breaking the law.

With the first trial still pending and a new one just starting today, is there any chance for both companies to come to an agreement in the near future?
