After an exploit about the downloadable 3DS game was posted online yesterday, the Atlus game Citizens of Earth became unavailable and removed from the Nintendo digital store. On Facebook, Atlus did not specify the reason for the removal, but did share the following message (Facebook login required):
Due to unforeseen circumstances, we had to immediately remove Citizens of Earth from the Nintendo eShop for Nintendo 3DS. Both ATLUS and Nintendo are working together to get Citizens of Earth back up on the eShop. We apologize for the inconvenience to anyone affected by this, and assure you that we’re working to restore the game as quickly as possible.
The hackers chose this title simply because it was available on the most recent Humble Friends of Nintendo bundle. For many people, the hack won’t work because it needs “an existing homebrew entrypoint” to let users ran pirated software.
Citizens of Earth is not the first title removed from the Nintendo eShop. Earlier this month, the game VVVVVV was taken out from Nintendo’s digital store; since May 3, the game hasn’t been available.
