Nintendo announced yesterday via its Support page it will close the Wii Shop Channel in January 2019. Since its availability in late 2006, the shopping app currently offers various titles, including more than 200 Virtual Console games.
Though many Virtual Console titles have made the move to the Wii U and Nintendo 3DS, a few of those games have not seen their presence on currently-supported systems yet.
For gamers who still use the Wii, Nintendo shared two important dates:
- March 25, 2018: The last day to purchase points in the Wii Shop or redeem Points Cards in the Wii Shop.
- January 29, 2019: The last day to purchase software in the Wii Shop.
On January 30, the all services associated with the Wii Shop Channel will close, including the Wii Channel and the Wii System Transfer Tool. The ability to re-download any purchased WiiWare, VC and any others digital titles will not be possible after January 29.
