Today, Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang introduced the next-gen RTX 3070, RTX 3080 & RTX 3090 GPU cards coming soon to a PC near you.
From his kitchen, Huang showed off the technology behind the upcoming graphic cards built on Ampere architecture, unlike the still-current RTX 20-series based on Turing.
The most powerful GPU, the RTX 3090, will have the most memory with 24 GB of GDDR6X VRAM and the most Nvidia CUDA cores with 10496. It’s bigger than any other card as it takes up three slots and two fans. This GPU will attract gamers who want the best as it is the world’s first graphics card that lets players play, capture and watch in 8K HDR at 60 fps. The cost: US$1499.00. This monster of a card will make its debut on September 24.
Meanwhile, the RTX 3080 (available Sept. 17) will have 10 GB of GDDR6X and the RTX 3070 (available in October) will come with 8 GB of GDDR6X. Both will also have HDMI 2.1.
The RTX 3080 is expected to handle 4K at over 60 frames per second, while the RTX 3070 should handle 1440p super smoothly.
With the 2nd generation of RTX graphic cards coming soon, more games will make use of ray-tracing, including Fortnite, Cyberpunk 2077 and some others. But, will more developers apply ray-tracing to their next-gen games? Not many developers got to apply ray-tracing into their PC games.
