Microsoft announces the Xbox Series S

Microsoft officially announced the Xbox Series S, the affordable version of its next-gen console, hours after insider Brad Sams shared info and photos via his YouTube channel.

Though many gamers had already been waiting for this console to be announced, it took a while for the Big M to reveal it. Perhaps what was unexpected what the mention of the price for Series S.

With a US$299 price tag, the Xbox Series S stands as the cheapest next-gen console, but it won’t bring some features the Xbox Series X has to offer. Though it will be all-digital (meaning no disc drive), it will feature 1440p at up to 120 fps, DirectX raytracing, variable rate refreshing, variable refresh rate, ultra-low latency, 4K streaming media, 4K upscaling for games, and a custom 512 GB SSD.

Sams also showed this morning a trailer of the Xbox Series S, 34 seconds into the video.

A Windows Central post, published before Microsoft’s 3AM EST announcement, says it can confirm the Series X will cost US$499.

The same Windows Central post also confirms the Xbox Series S and the Xbox Series X will both launch on November 10, 2020, along with financing options (US$25 a month for Xbox Series S and US$35 a month for Xbox Series X).

@Xbox has officially confirmed that November 10 will be the release date for the Xbox Series S.

Microsoft, according to Windows Central, will hold a press event soon, though no date and time has been announced yet.
