During today’s livestream, Amazon introduced the Amazon Luna, the newest cloud gaming service “designed for instant play” to compete against Google Stadia.
With the use of Amazon Web Services, the company is ready to offer “high-quality, immersive games” for Luna users who don’t want to spend time downloading games, updating their systems, or configuring their devices.
With Luna, Amazon is ready to skip the problems Microsoft, Google and other companies are currently facing. Apple’s rules currently do not allow xCloud and Google Stadia to offer cloud gaming services on iOS. Because of that, Amazon will make use of “progressive web apps.” Luna is coming to PCs, mobile devices and also to Amazon’s Fire TV.
Starting today, gamers interested can request an invitation to get early access to Luna Plus for just US$5.99. This paid plan will let gamers play on two devices, with 4K quality and 60fps “for select titles.” Unlike Stadia, Amazon will offer subscription to “game channels.” The first one mentioned today: Ubisoft. If they subscribe to Ubisoft’s channel, players will have access to new games such as Assassins Creed Valhalla and Far Cry 6 the day they are released on consoles.
Among the games fans will be seeing soon in the Luna catalog: Resident Evil 7, Control, Panzer Dragoon, A Plague Tale: Innocence, The Surge 2, Yooka-Laylee and The Impossible Lair, Iconoclasts, GRID, ABZU and Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons.
Amazon also showed off its Luna Controller “with Cloud Direct technology,” which reduce more latency when compared to gaming with Bluetooth devices. It’ll be available for US$49.99.
