According to Deadline, Constatin Film will reboot the Resident Evil films with an origin story more faithful to the Capcom video games. The story for the upcoming film will take place in Raccoon City in 1998, just like the first game in the franchise.
Among the cast chosen for the roles: Kaya Scodelario as Claire Redfield, Hannah John-Kamen as Jill Valentine, Robbie Amell as Chris Redfield, Tom Hopper as Albert Wesker, Avan Jogia as Leon S. Kennedy, and Neal McDonough as William Birkin.
“With this movie, I really wanted to go back to the original first two games and re-create the terrifying visceral experience I had when I first played them whilst at the same time telling a grounded human story about a small dying American town that feels both relatable and relevant to today’s audiences,” said Johannes Roberts, writer and film director at Constantin Film.
Robert Kulzer will return to his producer role representing Constatin Film along with James Harris (from Tea Shop Productions) and Hartley Corenstein.
Constatin will distribute the film in German-speaking regions and Elevation in Canada and France. Sony Pictures’ Screen Gems will be in charge of distribution in the US, while Sony Pictures Releasing International will take care of the film everywhere else.
Resident Evil was created by Shinji Mikami and Tokuro Fujiwara.
It was just weeks ago that Netflix announced the Resident Evil: Infinite Darkness animated series will debut in 2021.
