Take-Two Interactive has agreed to acquire UK game developer and publisher Codemasters. With the approval of the Board of Codemasters, the USD$994 million deal will take place during the first quarter of 2021.
“With a leading position in sports gaming, the Board of Codemasters firmly believes the Company will benefit from Take-Two’s broad capabilities which will help propel the long term success of Codemasters,” said Gerhard Florin, Chairman at Codemasters. “In recommending this offer to shareholders, the Board of Codemasters believes it is in the best interests of all stakeholders in the Company. Take-Two’s offer reflects the great work the management team has done since listing on AIM in 2018 at 200p and delivers an excellent return for shareholders in just two and a half years.”
With the acquisition of Codemasters, F1 will join other 2K titles (such as NBA 2K and NHL 2K). Take-Two Interactive will finally enter the competitive and exclusive genre of racing simulation.
It was this past Friday when Take-Two Interactive announced its intent to purchase Codemasters. Both companies had been in negotiations in October.
Will we be seeing 2K F1 in the near future?
