The popular horizontal-scrolling shooter returns to consoles and PC once again with R-Type Final 2 on April 30 (and a day earlier for fans in Japan).
The release of this game is a throwback to the 1980’s shoot-’em-up titles fans started to enjoy back then. The first-ever R-Type was released in 1987 by Irem.
The shoot-em’up will be arriving to PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, and PC (via Epic Games Store, Steam and GOG).
“The legendary shoot-’em-up hit is back with unparalleled R-Type experience! As the latest installment of a series renowned for its colorful visuals and frenetic shooter action, R-Type Final 2 steps it up in its explosive debut on current platforms with 3D graphics and modernized gameplay features,” says the game info page.
“New and old players alike can shape their experience to their liking with the performance-based difficulty system and customizable ships and pilots, while experiencing classic R-Type trademarks such as the “Force” mechanic and an addictive gameplay loop. Navigate an entire universe of new and classic stages, face enemies that evolve with your performance, and blast the competition away with worldwide leaderboards in this successor to the acclaimed R-Type franchise.”
For new and veteran fans of the franchise, there are two additional editions of the game.
The Inaugural Flight Edition (PS4/Switch/Xbox One/Xbox Series X|S) will include a copy of the game plus an official soundtrack (CD), “The Artwork of R-Type Final 2” softcover art book, and a Collector’s Box. This $49.99 edition will be available via GameStop and Amazon on May 31.
