According to Deadline, Crackle will premiere the 5-part documentary series Playing with Power: The Nintendo Story on March 1, 2021.
The gaming documentary, written and directed by Jeremy Snead, tells the story of Nintendo, the Japanese company founded in 1889 that originally produced handmade hanafuda playing cards.
The series will feature interviews with Wil Wheaton (from Star Trek: TNG), Alison Haislip (actress and former G4 personality), Ron Judy (Nintendo of America co-founder), Nolan Bushnell (Atari co-founder), Tom Kalinske (former Sega of America CEO), Phil Spencer (head of Xbox), and Reggie Fils-Aimé (former Nintendo of America CEO).
“Producing and directing Playing with Power has been a lifelong ambition of mine as an artist, gamer and filmmaker,” said Snead. “To see my show not only come to life with such loving care through my team and I’s efforts but to also have the opportunity to partner with such a talented and experienced team like Screen Media and Crackle to release the series to the public has just been a dream come true.”
Sean Astin joins Snead as executive producer and narrator.
Snead is no stranger to documentaries about gaming. He was worked on the 2014 documentary Video Games: The Movie and the 2016 documentary series Unlocked: The World of Games, Revealed.
