According to Nikkei, Nintendo President Suntaro Furukawa stated the Nintendo Switch could experience hardware shortages because of its unprecedented demand.
“We currently have enough semiconductors to tide us over with immediate Switch production term,” said Furukawa as seen on a NintendoEverything.com post. “Demand both in Japan and abroad has been very high since the beginning of the year, so there is a possibility we might not be able to meet the demand of all retailers at some point in future.”
Nintendo has not yet experienced problems with the availability of its Switch and Switch Lite. However, Sony’s PS5 and Microsoft’s Xbox Series X|S have been hard to find for many people. When available online, both consoles are sold out in just a few minutes.
A semiconductor shortage around the world is causing production problems for various devices.
Still, Nintendo may have difficulties later this year if the company releases a new Switch. Bloomberg previously reported an updated version nicknamed Switch Pro will feature an OLED panel, 4K resolution when docked, and Nvidia DLSS tech.
