The Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time Remake is being delayed again but not cancelled, Ubisoft told IGN today. The confirmation by Ubisoft came today after game stores such as GameStop were removing pre-orders for The Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time Remake.
Ubisoft reassured IGN the remake continues to be in development. However, the game won’t make its debut during the company’s 2023 fiscal year.
“The development of Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time Remake will now be led by Ubisoft Montreal. We’re proud of the work achieved by Ubisoft Pune and Ubisoft Mumbai, and Ubisoft Montreal will benefit from their learnings as the new team will continue the work to deliver a great remake,” said Ubisoft.
“As a consequence, we are no longer targeting a FY23 release anymore and the game has been delisted. If players wish to cancel their preorder they are invited to contact their retailer. They will be updated on the project as the development is moving along.”
Though this remake was supposed to have been released on January 21, 2021, after it was announced during the Ubisoft Forward 2020, the title has been delayed again and again. It was first delayed on Dec. 8, 2020 (archive) for a March 18, 2021 release. Then in February 2021, Ubisoft mentioned the game was going to be delayed “to a later date.” In June 2021, a tweet said Ubisoft was planning to release it in 2022.
Last month, Ubisoft announced Ubisoft Montréal would work in the development of the game, instead of Ubisoft Pune and Ubisoft Mumbai.
