On Twitter, Nintendo announced today it will remove the Mario Kart Tour gacha mechanic and add a Battle mode at the end of September.
For fans, the gacha pipe has been one major complaint since the game’s debut in September 2019. This controversial mechanic has been the only way for players to obtain certain items. It will be replaced with the new Spotlight Shop.
According to the game’s latest update post, the Spotlight Shop will let players “exchange rubies for drivers, karts, and gliders featured in tours!” including those that have appeared before. This shop will make its debut “with tours that begin after 10/05/2022 (Wed).”
Along with the Spotlight Shop, the Battle mode will make its debut in single player and multiplayer modes. In this mode, “each player has ballons attached to their kart. Your goal is to pop your opponents’ ballons!”
In addition, “multiplayer Standard Races and Gold Races will be combined, and Gold Races, available only to Gold Pass subscribers, will be removed.”
