After using the name of one of its previous studios, EA will soon discontinue the Origin app to replace it with its own EA App, a new version of its desktop game client for Windows.
Via its blog, EA announced its gaming app has left its EA App open beta phase to replace the current Origin software.
“The EA app is our fastest and lightest PC client to date. With the new streamlined design, you will easily find the games and content you’re looking for and discover your new favorite games. With automatic game downloads and background updates you can ensure that your games are ready to play when you are.”
The new EA App allows players to connect their EA account to gaming platforms and services such as Xbox, Steam, and PlayStation.
Players who still use Origin will be invited to make the switch to the new app. EA says it’s making the process easy for fans to have control of their games played and purchased. The local and cloud saves will also be part of the move for fans to continue gaming.
The new EA App is currently available for Windows. That means MacOS players will continue to use Origin for Mac.
EA mentioned the re-branding of its Origin app back on September 15, 2020.
The company launched Origin in 2011 to create its own client software and store to compete against Steam.
Users can now go to https://www.ea.com/ea-app to download the new software.
