Nintendo announced today the acquisition of Shiver Entertainment owned by Embracer Group for an undisclosed amount. In recent years, Shiver Entertainment ported Hogwarts Legacy and Mortal Kombat 1 to the Nintendo Switch.
The Miami-based game developer started in December 2012 focusing on console (PlayStation, Xbox, Switch) and PC game development. Shiver has helped in the development of Madden NFL, FIFA, Guitar Hero and Need for Speed. The company, founded by CEO John Schappert, was acquired by Embracer Group in 2021.
“By welcoming Shiver’s experienced and accomplished development team, Nintendo aims to secure high-level resources for porting and developing software titles,” says the press release. “Going forward, even after it becomes a part of the Nintendo group, Shiver’s focus will remain the same, continuing commissions that port and develop software for multiple platforms including Nintendo Switch.”
Though Nintendo did not disclose any financial terms, “the Acquisition will have only a minor effect on Nintendo’s results for this fiscal year.”
