“La Maison en Petits Cubes” | Best Animated Short Film

[EN]:Before tonight’s Oscar ceremony, Hayao Miyazaki’s Spirited Away had been the only Japanese animated film to have received the recognition it deserves in its category, but now, another movie from the Land of the Rising Sun has achieved its goal. La Maison en Petits Cubes (translated to English as House of Small Cubes) has become the newest winner in the Best Animated Short Film category. The movie, directed by Kunio Katō, deals with a man who resides in a submerged town. He must add blocks to his home to survive to remain dry. One day, he loses his favorite pipe. During his search for a new one, he unexpectedly gets to relive his past. This is Japan’s second win in animated movies.
