The proprietary platform for web multimedia is coming to an end as Adobe says adiós to Flash, in name only.
Adobe announced via its blog the product formerly known as Adobe Flash Professional CC will become Adobe Animate CC. The name change will not change the product as a “web animation tool for developing HTML5 content while continuing to support the creation of Flash content.”
The company has recognized the importance of the HTML5 web standards for the future of the web, however, HTML5 has not caught on yet for specific purposes such as gaming and premium video “where new standards have yet to fully mature.”
Though Facebook has previously asked Adobe for an end for Flash, it will cooperate with Adobe “to help ensure Flash gaming content on Facebook continues to run reliably and securely.”
