After 11 years, Zynga will shutdown the original FarmVille game on Facebook on December 31.
Though there are fans of the franchise still playing FarmVille 2 and its spin-offs with their smartphones, it was the first FarmVille web game that brought many people into social gaming in the late 2000s.
The reason for the shutdown: Adobe’s Flash Player, used in many browser games, web interactivity and animation for many years, will no longer be supported nor distributed. Because of that, Flash games in Facebook will no longer work after December 31, 2020.
With the date set for a good-bye, Zynga mentioned also that in-app purchases will be available until November 17. After that date, there will be no purchases nor refunds.
The company also advises fans to spend any remaining credits before the due date.
FarmVille 3 is also coming soon to mobiles.
The FarmVille Shutdown FAQs page also says Zynga is offering a Bonus Package for fans who want to migrate to FarmVille 2: Tropic Escape. There is a deadline to migrate: December 31.
